Tales from a Fractured Folly : 28th February 2017

I had a very social day today. Cake with a friend this morning and then another friend for a meal out and a trip to the theatre to see Gaslight at Malvern. It was very good and the villain got booed at the end, so all was well with the world. It was a horribly cold, windy and wet day, but it’s March tomorrow. Hopefully it will get warmer soon.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 27th February

There are no obvious signs of dozens of frogs, but two were busy last night. A very welcome step towards spring. The highlight of today was stage four of my water meter saga.

I have long thought my water meter wasn’t working properly but as it seemed very cheap who was I to complain. It seems my days of paying £5 per month for my water might be coming to an end. Stage one was my meter being read, that was before Christmas. Stage two was someone more experienced also reading it and deciding it wasn’t working.  Stage three… an engineer to replace it. Stage four today two men and because it was too difficult for the single engineer. Sadly they too failed as there is something they need that they hadn’t got. I don’t like to complain as they are all nice people and are trying to be helpful and also I am not paying for any water. But this isn’t the most seamless piece of work. I wait with baited breath for 22nd of March when they are coming back for stage five. 😳

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 26th February 2017

I thought I was enjoying my lay-in this morning but clearly not as much as this chap was. My day got no more productive, I watched a soppy film, had some tea and went to the pictures to see Jackie. That wasn’t as I had expected. I thought it would be about her life, not a week in her life, and a very odd unnatural life at that. I came home to find a frog staring at me from under the fridge. It was a devil to shift as frogs stick to kitchen floors and I had a kitten breathing down my neck. But I got him outside eventually and he happily dived back into the pond.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 25th February 2017

Me and the Elf were having a day out together and we had chosen to go to Blenheim Palace. It was somewhere me and Worth drove past many times on our journeys to Oxford, but one that neither of us had ever been to. It wasn’t the best of days as it was cold and drizzly but the plan was to see the inside today and go back to the gardens when the weather was better, as the entrance ticket entitled you to a years pass.

Due to some complications we nearly didn’t get that but it was all sorted out in the end. There was a “Pashion for Fashion” exhibition of clothes in the State Rooms and they were beautiful.

Sadly we both got very cold in the cafe and never really warmed up. The walk back to the cars in the rain didn’t help either so we were going to have some tea and cake in Woodstock, but that is an impossible place to park in, so we drove on and found this wonderful pub called “The Falkland Arms” in a village called Great Tew. It was warm and cosy in there and we sat right in front of the fire until we felt better.

It was a lovely day out. I was a bit overwhelmed with memories when the day started, but they faded away as the day went on, and the present became more insistent, which is just how it should be.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 23rd February 2017

I had a very sociable day today with tea and chocolate cake with my friend this morning. We would have gone for a walk but it was so windy it was almost dangerous. So we sat and watched the chaps over the road fitting the ridge tiles on the roof instead.  How could anyone could sit astride the roof so casually in this wind? Then lunch out and this beautiful homemade Scotch Egg and chips. I drove  home in the pouring rain dodging odd bits of tree strewn over the road. I was quite glad to be safe home.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 22nd February 2017

This is my calendar that I put together and hangs in the kitchen. I am very proud that I did it and it makes me happy to have Worth keeping an eye on me. It seems that I have to have a bad day before I can have a better one. Yesterday was a bad one, today was much better although I didn’t actually do much more than potter about.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 20th February 2017

Today I made up my mind to tidy the garden and get all dead stuff out of the way. If I don’t clear the rubbish out it will all start growing from the long shoots and our garden is so small it all needs to be kept under control or we won’t have a garden left to sit in. I tidied up the irises and the pond as the frogs will be coming soon. It’s a bit of a bind doing these jobs on your own as you have to clear up as well as taking it all to the tip. But I was pleased with what I had done and next time I will be able to plant up some polyanthus and get the garden springlike.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 19th February 2017

The Elf was up and off to spend the day with her mate. I was out for lunch with friends then we went for a little walk by the canal and found this lovely derelict building, Cobb’s Engine House which was used for pumping water from the mines below. So what was an active mine is now an attractive nature reserve and it’s lovely to see just how nature fixes itself when we set out to ruin it.
