Tales from a Fractured Folly: 7th February 2017

This would have been so much more interesting if I had taken a “before” picture. Let it be known that this flower bed was crammed with weeds or at least things that could be deemed to be weeds. I have a plethora of Autumn Cyclamen which are very pretty but get entirely carried away with their own importance and soon become weeds. Adrian hated them. He was very keen that this patch should be neatly planted – think Versailles on a small scale. These self sowing intruders annoyed him immensely. I am a more laid back gardener and have an affection for things that spontaneously grow. (It was always a cause of some friction).

Nevertheless we had reached saturation point and my task today was to clear the bed. It was a beautiful morning, sunny and not really cold. I had two cats to keep me company. Bertie was overcome with excitement. “Mums digging in the garden!!!” and he joined me in a frenzy of digging, generally flinging the newly dug earth about, jumping over and on the hedge many times both in and out again. It’s a shame I didn’t have a camera with me, as he was covered in dirt and clearly a very happy little soul.

  1. Well, this does look lovely and you have now shamed me into getting at my front yard this weekend. The few shrubs that got hit with the one and only frost we had really are an eyesore and need to be cut back. My two cats will have to watch from the window as they are indoor only little ones.
