Tales from a Fractured Folly: 31st August 2017

I did lots of stuff in the garden today and decided that my windowbox was awful. So I took it to bits and bought some dahlias and violas that might last a few weeks, until I can plant it up for winter. The man at the nursery told me it’s been a bad year for begonias, his are wrecked too.

I have never understood these steps. They are so purposeful and Victorian but these days they are more or less in the middle of nowhere. They must have had a more useful existence years ago. I went out for a walk when it looked like it was brightening up and only just got home before it tipped down.

I like an excuse for a proper breakfast, and it’s so nice to have company. The loneliness of every evening and weekend being home without your best friend and trying to pretend you don’t mind is excruciating. Trying to drum up enough enthusiasm to cook a proper meal and then eat it alone. It’s gone on long enough, can I have him back now please?

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 27th August 2017

This was a great day and a fantastic run out. Me and the Elf had to get up at 6.15 to get presentable and get to Bristol for 8.00. We signed up, got our stickers and ate our bacon rolls and tea ready to leave at 9.00. The first part of the trip  was motorway and such but once we had reached the Brecon Beacons it was spectacular. There were the obligatory boy racers who frankly just embarrassed themselves at times but mostly it was respectable but a whole lot of fun and we placed ourselves behind two F-type convertibles who knew how to drive. When we eventually reached the showground, and yes there were thousands of Morgans there, we were hot, tired and completely exhausted 😩. So we stayed a while then went home, flaked out and watched the fireworks from the landing window.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 26th August 2017

I went to bed last night feeling a bit ill and woke this morning feeling worse. I had a terrific headache and felt quite sick. With the clever use of a teeny hot water bottle on the back of my head and a great deal of painkiller, I shifted the headache but still felt queasy and fragile. It’s a long time since I’ve had a migraine and I don’t welcome them back to my life. But I was out for lunch with friends, I managed some food and gradually as the day passed I felt more human. A little walk round Golden Valley pond in the lovely sunshine did wonders and I borrowed this photo from my young friend Sophie as I had again forgotten my phone. The Elf will perk me up when she gets here.

The Morgans are having a party in Malvern this weekend so they are everywhere. This is one put out as a sort of ornament to welcome the visitors to the showground. I met up with a friend in Waitrose car park and we had a drink and a natter. Then I bought all the food requested by the Elf for the weekend as she is staying with me for a couple of days, that’s a roast dinner and a fry up breakfast 🍳.

Tales from a Fractured Folly: 24th August 2017

It wouldn’t be unfair to say I have been a bit out of sorts for the last few days. It was started by a Facebook issue, you know the thing, someone who has no time for you seemingly has time for other people. Then a couple of unfortunate changes to plans and my outward  cheerfulness collapses in ruins. It is well known that songs can easily bring tears to people like me, but this morning it happened the other way. I heard a song, “Unbreakable” and it inspired me to get a grip. So I’ve put the smoke alarm back where it should be and slayed the other Hebe, and I’ve just had a phone call asking me to start my new job on 4th September. Things are looking up.

No Groovy Word today, just this:

When you lose your way and the fight is gone.

Your heart starts to break and you need someone around now

Just close your eyes while I put my arms above you

And make you unbreakable.

Without a Beastie in my life you will see very few pictures of me. But I had my hair done today and I felt I looked half decent, if a little windblown, which is as good as it gets. Don’t expect me to look like this when you next see me as I can’t do what Mark does with the blow drying brush. My neighbour finished moving out and it looks like he’s gone now. I’ve still got two cats 🐱. They were far too scared of the removal van to get involved, but I’m glad their curiosity hasn’t whisked them off to Manchester with my neighbour.
