My beautifully dug and weeded bed in the front garden remains unplanted because 1. As I thought my back is not in the mood for more bending and. 2. It is freezing out there today and I’m a fair weather gardener.
I spent this morning in the garden tidying up and cut these roses to bring indoors as they will spoil if I leave them outside in the frost tonight. I cleared out the front bed and I hope to plant it up with spring bulbs tomorrow. Ola had a fright when the huge dog next door chased her into my kitchen, (and she looks very big indeed in my kitchen). Then I washed SilverBeast. Now I will be idle for the rest of the afternoon and hope my back recovers before tomorrow.
This life without Worth is rubbish for all sorts of reasons, but one of them is that I have to clean my own shoes. Another is that everything is my fault as I have no-one else to blame. I can see why being a couple is a good idea. You also have to clear up the remnants of creatures. I had a double whammy of a chewed mouse and a robin (+ a zillion loose feathers), I would guess contributed by both cats. Bertie catches mice but Ola catches birds being a silent grey ninja and almost impossible to see. I don’t think she has the patience for mice -it’s a long game.
So having been late home last night I had a prompt start today to get to the Forest of Dean Christmas Food Festival. It was muddier than I expected but I was wearing my fur hat so I don’t think anyone noticed.😀. I left with some smoked cheese and some Bramble Gin. It’s good on its own but I was told it is better in Prosecco. I’ll let you know 🍷.
The Elf and I made a trip to Cardiff to see Greg Davies. We managed to combine that with a bit of shopping and a meal. So a good day and not too long getting out of the car park. It reminded me of a trip we made with our friends RVW and Storm to see the Red Bull Air Races. They were eventually cancelled because of poor weather but we waited all day in the rain and wind to find out, then spent another hour and a half to get out of the field.
It was beautiful on the hills this morning, there was just a breath of wind and you could feel the warmth of the sun. So lovely that I forgot the time and was almost late for my lunch with ex colleagues from work. The grazing has moved now to include this quarry which if you zoom in is full of sheep, all over the place. There were also cows amongst the trees which isn’t something you often see. These are Banded Galloways, they are very happy to live outside all winter.
This is pretty much the view from my spot at the table every morning. The tree is a massive copper beech and it has been a cause of worry for me for a long time as it had an odd branch sticking out at the top. I had noticed a few weeks ago this branch had disappeared and I thought it had broken off in the wind. But now the tree has lost its leaves you can see some of the branches just stop: someone has pruned it. How? And also why? It’s huge.
A puzzle for today. I decided that I should buy myself something a bit extravagant for Christmas/Birthday because Worth isn’t around to do it. It came today, the pound coin is to give you an idea of size. What have I bought? Answers at the end of the day.
Groovy Word of the day: bewilder
So there you have it… a pair of diamond earrings. I think the box was a little larger than it needed to be.
They put village Christmas tree up today. It’s so pretty and such a nice idea, as we have only recently had one. I think this bit of green has been taken over and now gets looked after by the Women’s Institute. It’s all planted up with herbs and flowers these days so I know where to go when I need some parsley.
Bertie is such an idiot. How does he do this? He is chasing one of the conkers I put in the corners to keep spiders away. I’m not convinced they work but I have had very few spiders this year. And they clearly amuse Bertie, so why not?
