I have to confess I am a bit of a sucker for Travelzoo and Groupon offers. These take me to places I wouldn’t normally go, usually with a friend. So I had a voucher for starter, main course and coffee for two at The Crown at Woolhope, Herefordshire. This was the starter I chose, smoked cheese soufflé with wild truffle and black garlic sauce – it was utterly delicious. Then I had seared lamb fillet in mint and red wine casserole with crispy potatoes and sticky toffee creme brûlée for pud. It was an astoundingly good meal and a fantastic drive through a still snowy wonderland to get to it. It wasn’t even that expensive. If you are ever hungry anywhere near Hereford, go there. I’d like to go back just to try something else.
